The
Story of the Aesir
The Aesir Saga was composed in the Rocky Mountains of
Colorado. The line form was created at a later date, and is ommited from
this edition, although the line form is eluded to in notes.
1 Odhinn ascended, with Hoenir to heights unknown
Ginnungagap below, great Itha Plain above;
ascended they further and on Itha Plain built
Odhinn great Ase-home, Hoenir great Ase-home.
2. Asgard still empty, Allfather found
Fjorgynn,
for frith from Fjorgynn filled Asgard
forthwith;
frolic finding frith, Fjorgynn finds Odhinn;
with Fjolnir Fjorgynn was pregnant with life.
3. Fjorgynn bore Fjolnir’s sons, first came ardent
Thorr,
a brother soon followed, Aesir Meili and
Thorr;
kept Fjorgynn her sons keeper from harms way,
until the time to teach, unless from harm hide
them.
4. Loki finding Ase-Home, finding from fiery
flame,
Odhinn found Loki friends fast became they;
Laufey-s son Loki soon friend of Odhinn,
became as blood, for blood brothers became.
5. Hand to knife finding, hand to knife
cutting
blood on Itha Plain dripped, blending to the
other
as Lopt-s friend by Odhinn Aesir became by
blood;
boasted Odhinn of mead, boast Lopt-s blood-brother:
mead would drink not lest mead would Loki
partake.
6. As Thorr grew older Aesir Odhinn, Hoenir
with Loki dids’t teach him with Fjorgynn fear
finding;
Odhinn spoke of knowledge, Hoenir spoke of senses,
Loki spoke of Jotnar, liked not Fjorgynn her
ears.
7. Fjorgynn liked not these things, Loki, Odhinn and
Hoenir
spoke of danger and deeds, spoke of ill-willed
Jotuns;
hiding Meili from these, hiding Meili from
danger,
Frigg flew forth freely, fleeing free to
Asgard. (1)
8. Not all was learned of the near and far worlds
before
Asa-Thórr came of age, Asa-Thorr knew not
all;
worlds within the World Tree, warrant his
protection
from the Utgards withal, from the Jotuns
within.
9. Asgard now empty, Allfather found Frigg,
for frith from Frigg filled Asgard forthwith;
frolic finding frith, Frigg finds Odhinn;
with Fjolnir Frigg was pregnant with life.
10. Allfather with Frigg shared Ase-Hamr with
wife,
Asynjur Frigg became, Asa-Wife of Odhinn;
Frigg then found her home, Fensalir the great
Hall
on Itha Plain was built, oathed of Odhinn was
Frigg.
11. Within Fensalir Frigg found her
hand-maidens:
Syn, Eir, and Fulla, Sjofn, and Lofn,
Vor, Hlin, and Snotra, Vara, and Saga,
lastly Gna, all for Frigg, giving Goddesses
all.
12. Frigg bore Fjolnir’s sons, in Fensalir
bore sons,
first came faithful Tyr, first in Fensalir
born;
a brother soon followed, Aesir Tyr and
Hermodh,
Sons of Allfather, sons of Odhinns-Oathed.
13. Tyr with Hermodh grew, with teachings they grew,
Aesir Odhinn, Hoenir and Loki dids-t teach
them;
Odhinn spoke of knowledge, Hoenir spoke of
senses,
Loki spoke of Jotnar, lurking dangers of
worlds.
14. As siblings they grew, as siblings they
aged,
Tyr learned many things, teachings of Aesir;
Hermodh-s brother then having come of age,
with Hermodh together, went forward to
Odhinn.
15. Odhinn gave unto Tyr, Odhinn gave to his
sons,
To Hermodh gave byrnie, Tyr objectivity;
for Hermodh a helmet, for Tyr, sword gave
Odhinn,
finely embroidered clothes, from Fensalir gave
Frigg.
16. Objectivity Tyr took, Tyr then ordered
all,
for the worlds knew not the ordering ways;
bringer of order, bringing Midgard might,
further ordered brave Tyr, fashioning worlds from
dust.
17. Asgard near empty, Odhinn found Frigg,
for frith from Frigg filled Asgard forthwith;
frolic finding frith, Frigg finds Odhinn,
with Fjolnir Frigg was pregnant with life.
18. Frigg bore Fjolnir-s sons, in Fensalir bore
sons,
first came fare Baldr, in Fensalir born
first;
a brother soon followed, Aesir Baldr and
Hodh,
sons of Allfather, sons of Odhinn-s-Oathed.
19. Friggs' maidens raised them, fair Baldr and
Hodh,
as siblings they grew, as siblings they aged;
Sjofn taught Baldr love, taught Eir, Baldr to
heal,
from Snotra wisdom, for Hodh was as a child.
20. Sif then to Ase-Home suredly behind
Thorr,
Thorr with Goldenhaired Sif shared Ase-Hamr with wife;
Asynjur Sif became, Asa-Wife of strong Thorr,
together they built Thrudheim on Itha Plain.
21. There was then great frith, then from Jotunheim came
sisters three, etins all, spinning the webs
of fate;
Urdh, Verdhandi, and Skuld, verily deciding,
none shall challenge them, none shall deny
them.
