BYLAWS OF SKERGARD

Purpose/Vision

To promote and spread the pre-existing Asa-Faith (Asatru) of the Teutonic People of Scandinavia and Germany through any non-violent means necessary. To promote the ideal of forming groups and communities of like minded members. To promote the Asa-Faith (Asatru) as practiced by our Founder, Elders and described by 10th-19th century scholars through religious observances, practices and holidays.     

 

Membership

Any person who wants to join Skergard, or one of its Kindred's, wholeheartedly is granted membership based on the following conditions:

          A. Membership is open to persons of the Asa-Faith (Asatru).

          B. Membership is open to those of European Ancestry.  

          C: Members must share our Purpose (above).

Any person can be denied admission by a 2/3 vote of The Council.

Membership is free.

 

Offices

          Founder: The Founder is the founder of Skergard, Volund L. Agnarsson. The Founder shall work closely with the High Rede  in keeping the organization on track with his vision and the organizations Purpose. The Founder appoints any vacant organizational positions and shall default to holding the position/s and responsibilities thereof until such a time that it/they is/are filled. The Founder shall sit on The Council and has one vote for each year since Skergards founding. Skergard was founded in 1992.

          High Rede: The High Rede is one of the Rede's that make up The Council that acts as Leader of The Council and therefore the membership of its' Kindred's. The High Redes' term of office is 1 year, from Ostara to Ostara, and s/he is appointed by the Founder based on the time of his/her Kindred joining Skergard in exact and unquestionable order. In this way the office is rotated between the Redes that make up the Council and is not appointed at random or politically motivated. In the event that it is a Rede's turn and that Rede wishes to pass on the responsibility he or she may do so and the next Rede in line shall be appointed.

          Rede: Redes are the various members who make up The Council. Redes are appointed by their perspective Kindred and each Kindred may have only 1 Rede serve at a time. A Rede defaults as the member who starts the Kindred. A Rede must compose a letter of intent, which will include their qualifications and areas of expertise, this letter is to be sent to The Founder for appointment to The Council. Term of office shall be decided by the membership of their Kindred. Redes are the organizational leaders of the Kindred to which they are a member.

          Elders: Elders are the members over 65 years of age. Elders advise The Council with their wisdom.

          Godhi/Gydja: Godhar are appointed by the members of their Kindred. Godhar are the religious leaders of the kindred to which they are a member.

          Bókari/a: The Bókari/a is an individual selected by the Council and appointed by the Founder to act as a liaison between Skergard and other community organizations.

          Ritstjóri/a: The Ritstjóri/a is an individual selected by the Council and appointed by The Founder to produce publications.

          Members: Members are individuals who express an interest in Skergard and have the best interest of Skergard in mind. Members must meet the membership requirements.

 

The Council & Kindred's

          The Council: The Council is a body consisting of The Founder, Redes, and lead by The High Rede. One Rede is appointed per Kindred. The Council is advised by The Elders and represents the organizational interests of Skergard. The membership of the Council is not limited at this time, minimum membership is 3. In the event that there are less than 3  decisions shall be made by the Founder and any Elders. Council members have one vote for every year they are in Skergard, each year accumulates on their date of entry.

          Kindred: A Kindred is a group of members who form a local alliance and appoint a Rede to The Council. Each Kindred is free to determine their own hierarchy, members, and leadership as limited only by the Membership Requirements. A Kindred must honor the decisions of The Council.
