The Lay of
Holde
Words of the Sister

VolundR L. Agnarsson1. It was when I came from Borr
and Bestla,
Purpose we
knew, with might and main set free,
Then I sank
sprouting the Great Tree of Life.
All who know
me sit within my branches.
2. Sank I
further into the Void, Nothingness,
For the
Vanir I gave birth to twin children,
Njorth and
Nerthus, giving the line of the Vans.
Their water
ever bind the Tree of Life.
3. Sank I
further into the Void, Nothingness,
Lest I be
disturbed, blessèd is my Path,
Long held
secrets I reveal what I give.
As such is
the path inspiration grants.
4. I sat and
waited, a guest came that day,
How youthful
she looked, the image of me,
I watched
her, waiting, as fear on her breath.
She looked,
Nothing, she saw, Nothing, felt she?
5. Her words
rang forth, "Nothing here", as heard I,
When one
speaks one listens, the Well hears all,
All good
children deserve reward, say I.
Treat them
well, and for the lazy Nothing.
6. The Gift gave
I to this child in time,
She waited
nine years in my cave well spent,
She emerged,
cunning in the arts of Seidh.
Freyja is
her name, in Cliffs I wait still.
7. See my
reflection, when you see yourself,
Aegir sent
the Waves, to you, they arrive still,
My offspring
as waves are welcome ever.
Partake of
them, in Wells I wait still.
8. My Brother I
saw, he hung down from a branch,
I showed him
what he sought, and watched him fall,
So I remain
a secret, until now.
Now I speak,
hear my words or I shall cease.
9. I stood and
waited, a guest came that day,
Flax gave I
to the man, and seeds, my gift,
Forever
welcome are the workers here.
I alone hold
the Spindle that binds you.
10. I come to
you, inspiration giving,
Ever welcome
is the giver of gifts,
My voice the
whispering wind, water flows.
Listen to
them, In You I wait still.
11. I looked and
waited, a guest came that day,
Cast down
from Asgard, into the Nothing,
I caught
her, taught her, Helgard now her home.
Halja is her
name, in Caves I wait still.
12. In time of
chill I ride the skies, in search,
Twas my hand
that rocked your cradle, you slept,
A hidden
gift revealed, those are my ways.
Feel them,
in your Heart I have always been.
13. I hold dear,
one night of the year, sacrèd,
Herring
partake and be blessed for the year,
Gift so
small, hard work I welcome ever.
Eat them
well, and for the others Nothing.
