  Welcome
to my little piece of the web.
The written Runic
alphabet.
By written Runic
alphabet I am not writing about those little jagged lines
used for ease of rock carving that so many people are
fond of writing these days.
What I am writing
about is a *flowing* script... no more 90 degree angles
and carpal tunnel... do you honestly believe that if the
ancients had paper they would be writing on it the same
way they would carve stone?
Of course, there
is no right or wrong, this is based on individual style
and handwriting, although there a few guidelines. Here is
the alphabet in Roman order...
A.
This letter is made up of 2 strokes. 1. starting at the
top of the verticle line, draw a line from top to bottom,
lift. 2. starting on the *right* draw a horizontal line
to the left, after you cross the verticle line, bring the
stroke back (without lifting this line is continuous) and
bring the stroke in a *downward* curve, lift.
B. This letter is
similar to the Roman letter B, although there is slight
difference, there is one continuous stroke. Starting at
the bottom of the verticle line, draw a verticle line
from *bottom to top*, do not lift... now continue to the
desired result ending roughly where you started, lift.
C. This letter
should be substituted with either K or S.
D. This letter
looks more difficult than it is. The writing instrument,
again does not lift from the medium, starting at the
bottom of the left verticle line, draw a verticle line
*from bottom to top*, continue the stroke down and to the
right until you reach roughly the same level that you
started, now without lifting the instument, bring the
line up to the point of your desired result and bring it
back down and to the left to the the area of your
starting point, lift.
E. This letter
starts at the bottom left, draw a verticle line from
*bottom to top* then, without lifting the instrument,
bring the line down and to the right, then up and to the
right, then down to the desired ending point, lift.
F. This letter is
made up of 2 strokes. 1. starting at the top of the
verticle line, draw a line from top to bottom, lift. 2.
starting on the *right* draw a horizontal line to the
left, after you cross the verticle line, bring the stroke
back (without lifting this line is continuous) and bring
the stroke in a *upward* curve, lift.
G. This letter is
made up of 2 strokes. This is similar to the Roman X.
H. This letter is
more difficult than the others and is made up of 2
strokes. This letter starts at the top of the first
verticle stroke. 1. draw a line from *top to bottom*,
lift. 2. bring your writing instrument to the left side
of the line, just under halfway. From this point draw a
line downward and to the right until you reach the area
level to the bottom of the first line, then bring this
stroke up vertically until you reach the area level to
the top of the first line, lift.
I. This letter is
the easiest of the letters. A single stroke starting at
the top and ending at the bottom, lift.
J. This letter is
a single stoke. Start the stroke by drawing a line down
and to the right, then continue from the right bringing
the stroke to the left, then bring the stroke back down
and to the right, lift.
K. This letter is
a single stroke. Start the stroke by drawing the line
down and to the left, then continue from the left and
bring it down and to the right. These two should be
roughly the same length, lift.
L. This letter is
a single stroke. Start the stroke by drawing a line up
and to the left, then continue the stroke down vertically
until it is several times the length of the other area,
lift.
M. This is the
most difficult of the letters. Here are several pictures
ADD
N. This letter is
made up of 2 strokes. 1. start at the top point and draw
a verticle line down, lift. 2. somewhere between the
middle and the bottom of the first line, draw a line down
and to the right from left to right, this line should be
of equal size on each side of the verticle line, lift.
O. This is a
single stroke. At the bottom draw your line up and to the
right curving back to the left as you reach the top, then
continue the line back down and to the left, then
continue to the right and down to the bottom crossing the
line, lift.
P. This letter is
a single stroke. Starting at the top right area, draw a
curving line down and to the left, then back up
continueing to the left, then draw the line down
vertically to the bottom point and continue with an
upward curve to the right flowing back down and to the
right, lift.
Q. This letter
should be substituted with KW.
R. This letter is
made up of 2 strokes. 1. starting at the top, draw a
vertical line downward, lift. 2. return to the top of the
first line and draw a line downward and to the right,
curve this back downward and to the left back to the
first line, continue the stroke from that point downward
and to the right, lift.
S. This letter
should be a fluid movement starting at the top area and
flowing down and to the left, then down and to the right,
and then down and toward the left, lift.
T. This letter is
made up of 2 strokes. 1. starting at the top point draw a
line vertically from top to bottom, lift. 2. from the
middle of the left side of the first line begin the next
stroke, start by curving the line upwards and to the
right, once the vertical line is crossed curve the line
downwards and continue to the right until you reach the
point level with the begining of the stroke, lift.
