The Story of the Aesir
Aesir Saga

©1993-2009 Skergard1 Odhinn ascended, with
Hoenir to heights unknown
Ginnungagap below,
great Itha Plain above;
5 ascended they further
and on Itha Plain built
Odhinn great Ase-home,
Hoenir great Ase-home.
Asgard still empty,
10 Allfather found
Fjorgynn,
for frith from Fjorgynn
filled Asgard forthwith;
frolic finding frith,
Fjorgynn finds Odhinn;
15 with Fjolnir Fjorgynn
was pregnant with life.
Fjorgynn bore Fjolnir's
sons,
first came ardent Thorr,
a brother soon followed,
20 Aesir Meili and Thorr;
kept Fjorgynn her sons
keeper from harms way,
until the time to teach,
unless from harm hide
them.
25 Loki finding Ase-Home,
finding from fiery flame,
Odhinn found Loki
friends fast became they;
Laufey-s son Loki
30 soon friend of Odhinn,
became as blood, for
blood brothers became.
Hand to knife finding,
hand to knife cutting
35 blood on Itha Plain
dripped,
blending to the other
as Lopt-s friend by Odhinn
Aesir became by blood;
boasted Odhinn of mead,
40 boast Lopt-s
blood-brother:
mead would drink not lest
mead would Loki partake.
As Thorr grew older
Aesir Odhinn, Hoenir
45 with Loki dids't teach
him
with Fjorgynn fear
finding;
Odhinn spoke of knowledge,
Hoenir spoke of senses,
Loki spoke of Jotnar,
50 liked not Fjorgynn her
ears.
Fjorgynn liked not these
things,
Loki, Odhinn and Hoenir
spoke of danger and deeds,
spoke of ill-willed
Jotuns;
55 hiding Meili from
these,
hiding Meili from danger,
Frigg flew forth freely,
fleeing free to Asgard.
Not all was learned of the
60 near and far worlds
before
Asa-Thorr came of age,
Asa-Thorr knew not all;
worlds within the World
Tree,
warrant his protection
65 from the Utgards
withal,
from the Jotuns within.
Asgard now empty,
Allfather found Frigg,
for frith from Frigg
70 filled Asgard
forthwith;
frolic finding frith,
Frigg finds Odhinn;
with Fjolnir Frigg
was pregnant with life.
75 Allfather with Frigg
shared
Ase-Hamr with wife,
Asynjur Frigg became,
Asa-Wife of Odhinn;
Frigg then found her home,
80 Fensalir the great Hall
on Itha Plain was built,
oathed of Odhinn was
Frigg.
Within Fensalir Frigg
found her hand-maidens:
85 Syn, Eir, and Fulla,
Sjofn, and Lofn,
Vor, Hlin, and Snotra,
Vara, and Saga,
lastly Gna, all for Frigg,
90 giving Goddesses all.
Frigg bore Fjolnir's sons,
in Fensalir bore sons,
first came faithful Tyr,
first in Fensalir born;
95 a brother soon
followed,
Aesir Tyr and Hermodh,
Sons of Allfather,
sons of Odhinns-Oathed.
Tyr with Hermodh grew,
100 with teachings they
grew,
Aesir Odhinn, Hoenir
and Loki dids-t teach
them;
Odhinn spoke of knowledge,
Hoenir spoke of senses,
105 Loki spoke of Jotnar,
lurking dangers of worlds.
As siblings they grew,
as siblings they aged,
Tyr learned many things,
110 teachings of Aesir;
Hermodh-s brother then
having come of age,
with Hermodh together,
went forward to Odhinn.
115 Odhinn gave unto Tyr,
Odhinn gave to his sons,
To Hermodh gave byrnie,
Tyr objectivity;
for Hermodh a helmet,
120 for Tyr, sword gave
Odhinn,
finely embroidered
clothes,
from Fensalir gave Frigg.
Objectivity Tyr took,
Tyr then ordered all,
125 for the worlds knew
not
the ordering ways;
bringer of order,
bringing Midgard might,
further ordered brave Tyr,
130 fashioning worlds from
dust.
Asgard near empty,
Odhinn found Frigg,
for frith from Frigg
filled Asgard forthwith;
135 frolic finding frith,
Frigg finds Odhinn,
with Fjolnir Frigg
was pregnant with life.
Frigg bore Fjolnir-s sons,
140 in Fensalir bore sons,
first came fare Baldr,
in Fensalir born first;
a brother soon followed,
Aesir Baldr and Hodh,
145 sons of Allfather,
sons of Odhinn-s-Oathed.
Frigg-s maidens raised
them,
fair Baldr and Hodh,
as siblings they grew,
150 as siblings they aged;
Sjofn taught Baldr love,
taught Eir, Baldr to heal,
from Snotra wisdom,
for Hodh was as a child.
155 Sif then to Ase-Home
suredly behind Thorr,
Thorr with Goldenhaired
Sif
shared Ase-Hamr with wife;
Asynjur Sif became,
160 Asa-Wife of strong
Thorr,
together they built
Thrudheim on Itha Plain.
There was then great
frith,
then from Jotunheim came
165 sisters three, etins
all,
spinning the webs of fate;
Urdh, Verdhandi, and
Skuld,
verily deciding,
none shall challenge them,
170 none shall deny them.
Nanna then to Asgard
came, knowing her way;
from here
on it has no verse form, only notes. each note will be
turned into 4+ lines of poetry. There is no point in
spell checking as they are notes.
nanna then came to Asgard
when baldr saw nanna .....
they made breidhablick
their home
forseti is born
nanna becomes Asynjur
Odhinn Hoenir and Loki
then came to midgard
from an ash they were
approached by ask
from an elm, embla on all
fours
odhinn gave then an
awareness of Salfr
Hoenir ond
Loki individual thought
ask and embla left them
and passed their traits to
others of their kind
there kind began to evolve
faster than the other animals
eventually they resembled
the gods
they also brought
consciousness to the dwarves
this place in midgard was
known as mannaheim
man became aware of the
wights, and aware of the
gods of nature
they prayed to the gods
called to Vanir
they also prayed to loki
who brought fire to them
the aesir were not aware
of the vanir and continued to
influence these creatures
they saw within man vast
potentual
Sif went to man and taught
them how to gather nuts and
berries
upon returning to asgard
sif with thorr was pregnant
Thrudh was born
as she grew older she
became fascinated by man
she encouraged them to
harvest grains, and to plant seeds
after witnessing the men
worship the goddes, one of the
vanir follows her to
asgard
the aesir call this van
gullveig, and they kill her...
the war
When Forseti came of age
he took it upon himself
to bring justice to the
worlds, thus ending the war,
and builds Glitnir, his
home.
The Aesir gave the Vanir
hostages: Hoenir, and Mimir,
brother of Bestla; and
they settled in Vanaheim.
The Vanir gave the Aesir
hostages: Njord, Freyr, and
Freya; and they settled in
Asgard.
With Freyr cam Byggvir,
Beyla, and Skirnir.
With Freya cam the
Valkyries, the warrior-maidens:
Brynhild, Geirmund,
Geirskogul, Goll, Gondul, Gunn, Guth,
Herfjotur, Hervor the
All-wise, Hild, Hlathguth the Swan-White,
Hlokk, Hrist and Mist (who
serve Odin), Olrun, Randgrith,
Rathgrith, Reginleif,
Sigrun, Skeggjold, Skogul, Skuld, Svana,
and Thruth.
The Aesir and the Vanir
then made a truce by spitting into a kettle.
>From the kettle was
spawned Kvasir who had the
combined knowledge of all
the gods.
He merrily journeyed
throughout all the worlds offering
his knowledge to all who
would accept it, for his knowledge
knew no bounds.
The Vanir felt that they
were cheated in the exchange of
hostages, for Hoenir would
not speak his mind in council;
in anger they slew Mimir
and returned his head to Odin to
express their displeasure.
Odin takes MimirUs head
and preserves it, singing runes to it,
and takes it to a secret
place.
This place in Jotunheim
then became known as Mimir-s well
ever onward.
An unknown builder then
came to Asgard, the builder claimed
he could raise a wall
around Asgard within 18 months.
His price was the sun and
moon, and Freya as well.
With the aid of Loki that
the builder must build the
walls in one winter, with
the aid of his horse Svidilfari.
The wall was all complete
and fully guarded against
all assault, except for
the entrance, by three days before summer.
The Gods decided that the
situation was Loki-s transgression,
and that he must devise a
plan to default the builder.
That night a mare was
spotted, Svidilfari sought after her,
leaving his duties behind.
The builder was so angered
that his true visage was seen.
The Gods bore witness to
this giantUs rage and called upon Thor.
The Gods- wager was
nullified by the builder-s deception.
Thor then returned from
jotunheim, and recognizing
the builder as giant-kind,
slew the giant.
Nine months pass and no
one has heard from Loki.
Loki returned with a young
colt, Sleipnir, the fastest
horse in all the worlds;
for he appeared to have eight
legs when he ran.
Loki then gave Sleipnir to
Odin as a gift.
Kvasir then accepts an
invitration to a feast sponsored
by Fjalar and Galar, and
sets out for Svartalfheim.
While faring through
Mannaheim, Kvasir teaches men
wisdom and the Lore of the
Gods.
Thor on another journey to
Jotunheim visits Jarnsaxa,
who gives birth to his two
sons, Magni and Modi.
As Magni and Modi grew
older, they learned many things
from the dwarves, whom
they would often visit.
When Modi came of age, he
took it upon himself to teach
man how to forge and
fashion bronze.
Magni continued to learn
things from the dwarves; and
after learning many
things, took it upon himself to teach
man how to forge and
fashion iron.
It was then that Odin hung
himself on the Yggdrasil.
Wounded by his own spear,
and sacrificing himself to
himself, Holda then taught
him the secret of death over
a period of nine nights.
Odin then saw the runes,
and absorbing their knowledge,
fell from the tree.
Odin then sacrifices his
left eye for a drink from Mimir-s well,
and Mimir teaches him nine
songs.
When Odin returns to
Asgard, Tyr recognises the power of
his father and he acedes
to him.
Loki then inspires the
Dwarves to create gifts for the Aesir,
pitting the two great
clans of dwarves against each other.
Sigyn then came to Asgard.
When Loki saw Sigyn, he
sought after her, and they were wed.
Loki was so moved by her
presence, and her by his, that they
had two sons, Nari and
Narfi. In doing this, Sigyn became Asynjur.
Loki journies to Jotunheim
and meets with Angrboda.
Angrboda has three
childred by Loki: Hela, Fenrir, and Jormungand.
Loki keeps his affair with
Angrboda, and his children by her, a secret.
The Aesir discover the
birth of LokiUs ill brood, and seek them out.
Odin then cast Jormungand
toward Midgard, where he
continually grows as
Midgard conytinues to expand.
Odin cast the half-dead
Hela toward Helgard.
Holda catches Hela from
her fall, and teaches her of the dead.
The Fenris wolf returns
with Odin to Asgard.
Tyr nurtures Fenrir, for
he is the only one with the courage
to feed the fell wolf.
Odin, in coucil with the
Norns, is told that Fenrir will be the
death of him.
Seeing FenrirUs strength
and ferocity, the Aesir decided to
bind Fenrir.
Three chains, Ledding,
Dromi, and Gleipnir were used.
Only the insubstantial
Gleipnir could bind the wolf.
In binding Fenrir, Tyr
lost his right hand to the wolf-s jaws.
Odin journies to Jotunheim
to seduce Grid, in order to
have a son to avenge his
prophesied death.
Odin tells Grid, *When our
son, Vithar, comes of age,
send him to his father.*
Thor and Loki then set off
to Jotunheim.
While in Jotunheim, Grid
gives them shelter
and warns them of
Utgard-Loke.
Baldr begins to have
nightmares.
Frigg assigns Hlinn to
protect Baldr, and asks all
things to protect him as
well.
Loki, in the guise of an
old crone, procures from Frigg
the mistletoe was too
young to offer protection.
Hodur, unknowingly, kills
Bldr with the guidance
and direction of Loki.
All the gods mourned the
death of Baldr.
Since no Ase can kill
their own, Odin journies to
Jotunheim to visit with
the evil guantess Rind,
and by her has Vali.
Vali kills Hodur, and
returns to his mother in Jotunheim.
Loki insults all the Gods
and Goddesses and is banished.
Narfi becomes a wolf to
murder his brother Nari.
